Amaya Plaza is an office and retail building designed with a whimsical yet considerate nature. Situated in Nadd Al Hamar with many local residential villas surrounding it, the design both shows its unique character while using the saturated beige of its façades to blend more seamlessly with its environment. Beige plaster and glazing make up the majority of the U-shaped, 2-story form, with intersections of playful, wavy horizontal planes for canopies and roofing. Slender columns are brightly colored and intersect the main canopy and create an entry icon for office users and retail patrons. A broad range of glazing sizes is used to give variety to the office experience, while the main buildings use a visual pilotis format. Between the colors and form of the project, Amaya Plaza is sure to be one of DAR’s more amusing visual representations.
