Situated in the center of Dubai, next to Burj Khalifa on Sheikh Zayed Road, The Solar Tower rises above a five-story podium with a double-height arcade housing retail spaces, while the upper floors will house offices. The building is arranged so that its main façade will overlook Sheikh Zayed Road. The orientation and form of the structure are determined by sun & wind; environmentally its aerodynamic profile reduces wind deflections compared with a rectilinear tower of similar size. The Solar Tower is integrated sustainable design, intending to achieve a net-zero energy performance and carbon emission using several types of solar panels, as well as using a variety of passive systems such as aesthetically dynamic horizontal spandrel shade fins to reduce electrical use. The sky gardens are a central feature of the tower and are shaped with external open spaces at four different levels to bring both light and enhance oxygen quality to the building. This project is an early push by DAR to create sustainability solutions for future projects.
